Funding
What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)?
A PPA is an agreement where we fund, install and own a solar or wind system on your site, and you buy the electricity it generates at a fixed price per kWh. That price is set below what you currently pay your energy supplier, so you save from the first day the system runs.
Is it really free to install?
Yes. With a funded PPA there is no upfront cost for the system, installation or grid application. You only pay for the electricity you use.
How long does a PPA last?
Commercial PPAs typically run for 20 to 25 years. The exact term is set out clearly in your proposal before you sign anything.
What happens at the end of the agreement?
The options are set out in your agreement. These usually include extending it, buying the system, or having it removed.
What is the difference between PPA, asset finance and CAPEX?
With a PPA we own the system and you buy its electricity. With asset finance you own the system and repay the cost monthly. With a CAPEX purchase you buy the system outright and keep every saving from day one. See our funding options.
Can we claim tax relief?
Businesses buying renewable equipment through asset finance or CAPEX may be able to claim capital allowances. Your accountant can confirm what applies to you.
Technologies
What is solar fencing?
Solar fencing uses vertical, double-sided panels mounted in a fence line. They generate from both faces, producing more in the morning and evening than standard panels, and they take up very little land, so farming or grazing can carry on.
When should we choose solar tiles over panels?
Solar tiles replace the roof covering itself, so they suit new builds, re-roofing projects and buildings where appearance matters. On an existing roof in good condition, standard panels are usually better value.
Is our site suitable for wind?
Wind works best on open sites with good average wind speeds and space for turbines, such as farms, rural businesses and industrial sites. We carry out a wind assessment as part of your free survey.
Can you add a battery or EV chargers later?
Yes. Systems can be designed so battery storage and EV charging can be added at a later date.
Eligibility and your site
Is my site suitable?
Most commercial sites with a sound roof, a car park, spare land or a good wind resource, and steady electricity use, are suitable. We assess all of this as part of the free assessment.
We lease our building. Can we still go ahead?
Often, yes. We can work with your landlord to get their consent. Landlords and housing associations can also take a system directly.
Do you check our credit?
For funded projects we carry out a business credit check, as the agreement runs over a long term.
Do we need planning permission?
Most rooftop commercial solar falls under permitted development. Wind turbines, ground-mounted systems, large carports and listed buildings usually need planning permission. We'll tell you during the assessment and handle the application.
Installation and maintenance
What is a DNO application and do you handle it?
Your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) must approve any system that connects to the grid. Larger commercial systems need a G99 application. We prepare and submit it for you.
How long does it take?
It depends on the technology, the size of the system, and grid and planning approval times. We give you a timeline in your proposal, and installation itself is planned around your operations.
Who looks after the system?
On a PPA we monitor, maintain and repair the system for the full term at no extra cost. On asset finance or CAPEX, maintenance packages are available.
